A new Irish Heart Foundation Slí na Sláinte walking route was launched in Mountcharles on Saturday last.
Slí na Sláinte is a unique Health Promotion initiative of the Irish Heart Foundation designed to encourage people to walk for health and leisure. The Mountcharles route entails a scenic 5 kilometre walk along part of the Wild Atlantic Way taking in views of Donegal Bay and the Sligo and Leitrim mountains.
The new route was launched by the unveiling of the Slí na Sláinte mapboard at the Sacred Heart church car park by local Mayor Michael Kerrigan followed by a walk along the 5km route and refreshments afterwards in the church annex room.
Health Promotion Manager from the Irish Heart Foundation, Maureen Mulvihill said: “We hope that the community will get great enjoyment and benefit from the new Slí na Sláinte route. Getting active makes such a big difference to your heart and overall health, helping to reduce stress, ease back pain and reduce the risk of heart disease.”
