The 7th edition of the Magee Donegal Bay Spring Sportive will take place this Saturday 13th April starting in Donegal town and taking in the scenic roads of South Donegal.
Winner of Best Leisure Event at the 2017 Cycling Ulster Awards, the Sportive is now probably the largest and most popular leisure cycling event in the Northwest attracting up to some 500 cyclists each year from all over Ireland.
The local Donegal Bay Club put a lot of effort into organising the event and pride themselves on having one of most highly regarded leisure cycling events in Ireland.
Once again this year, there will be three routes on offer, 50/100/140km catering to all levels of cyclist, whether a hardened veteran or newer cyclist. All routes head westward out of Donegal town down the shore road at Mountcharles, up Salthill and on to Dunkineely.
The 50k route will do a loop around Bruckless and then back to Donegal Town. The longer routes continue through Killybegs and along the beautiful shore road to Kilcar and Carrick. Here they split with the 100k turning right for the foodstop at Meenaneary whilst the 140k route continues onto toward Malinbeg, back into Glencolmcille and up to the foodstop at Meeneary.
Both routes then head down Glengesh, through Ardara and back toward Donegal Town via Ardaghey. The longer route makes a deviation for a tough loop around the Bluestack Drive before everyone arrives back into Donegal Town.
The routes are challenging but rewarding with many former participants describing the scenery en-route as the most beautiful in Ireland.
Magee 1866 have been the main event sponsor since 2015 and we are again delighted to have them on board as our main sponsor. We are also happy to have Ferm Engineering, McMorrow & McLoughlin Solicitors, Donegal Town Credit Union and Gallaghers Bakery as backers for this year also.
We once again look forward to welcoming a large crowd of enthusiastic cyclists for this most enjoyable day out.
