Burt and Gaeil Fhanada shared the points in a scrappy Division Three encounter at Hibernian Park last night in a game that only sprang to life in the closing minutes.
Mark McAteer and Seamí Nanny Friel were to the fore for Fanad in the first half, sharing five points between them while Burt had a point apiece from Matthew Doherty and Ronan McDermott.
Fanad keeper Eoin McGonigle pulled off two point blank saves in that first half, and the visitors led by 0-5 to 0-2 at the break.
Sean McHugh pointed early in the second half for Burt, but Eoghan Carr palmed the ball to the net to put Fanad 1-5 to 0-3 ahead by the 33rd minute.
From there right down to the end, Burt dominated the possession stakes but fired a series of chances wide and, as in the first half, couldn’t find a way past McGonigle between the Fanad posts when they went for goal.
It was slow going but points from Mark McElhinney, Denver Kelly and Sean McHugh brought Burt back to within two points when they were awarded a 60th minute penalty.
Kelly struck low to the bottom right corner as Burt took the lead going into injury time.
Fanad won a free that Seamí Nanny converted from out on the left to level the sides and when Burt were penalised for a short kickout the veteran forward had a simple close in free to restore his side’s lead in the 63rd minute.
Burt, though, wouldn’t be quelled and they worked a fine equalising score from Dara Grant in the fifth minute of injury time to earn a deserved share of the spoils.
Burt scorers: Denver Kelly 1-1; Sean McHugh 0-2; Mark McElhinney 0-1; Dara Grant 0-1; Ronan McDermott 0-1; Matthew Doherty 0-1.
Fanad Gaels scorers: Seamí Nanny Friel 0-4; Mark McAteer 0-3; Eoghan Carr 1-0.
