Letterkenny IT boxer Matthew McCole bows out of  World University Boxing Championships

The World University Boxing Championships are currently taking place in Elista, Russia. The Irish team is made up of four boxers including Matthew McCole from Dungloe who will be commencing his second year of study in LYIT this month. Also in the team are Terry McEntee (Dublin City University), Sean Purcell (Waterford IT), and Rickey Nesbitt (Dundalk IT).
The first Irish boxer in action was Terry McEntee on Saturday, last, 1st September in the last 16 of the 60kg category. Terry produced an excellent performance to win on unanimous decision 5-0 against his Armenian opponent.
On Sunday 2nd September Seán Purcell and Matthew McCole were in action in the Quarter Finals of the 56kg and 64kg weight categories respectively. Unfortunately both boxers bowed out of the championships on unanimous decision. Despite this defeat Matthew continues to develop under the guidance of Zaur Anita in the High Performance Boxing Unit in Abbotstown in Dublin.
