Mark English bows out of European Championships after opening heats

Mark English . . . out of Europeans after opening heats

Letterkenny's Mark English bowed out of the European Athletic Championships after finishing 8th in his heat this morning (Thursday).
The UCD AC athlete made a brave bid in the home straight to get back in contention, but after making up a few places, finished 8th in a time of 1:48.98. It was a season's best for English, who has been troubled by injury this season.
The 800m division is very competitive and English found himself at the back of the field for the opening lap, before making his effort on the second circuit, but he found it difficult to make up the ground.

Speaking afterwards, Mark admitted that it didn't go for him. "Sometimes it doesn't click and that's what it was out there today."
English said that he had niggle during the Morton Games in the lead-up to the championships but he said was part and parcel of the sport.
"Today, they got away from me and it's hard to find that rhythm and get going.
"I'll look at the video of the race now and I'll talk over with my coach. It's too soon to start analysing it but there's always things you can be learning, always a reason for the way things have happened," said English, who thanked the support he had got from his sponsors Adidas, Hegarty's Garage in Letterkenny and Athletics Ireland.
"Look, there will be another day," said English.
