By Tom Comacksport'donegaldemocrat.com@dgldemocrat

Donegal GAA have begun a major fundraising drive to support county teams with a new car sticker for 2018.

The new 2018 Donegal car/window sticker was launched this week.

Details of a number of events and initiatives which officials are working on were also revealed.

Donegal has initially got to raise €300,000 so it can borrow in the region of €1 million.

The Donegal county committee approved borrowings of €900,0000 at their last monthly meeting.

Donegal Chairman Mick McGrath is heading up the new fundraising drive and a special new fundraising committee has been set up.

“It is a costly business running a county in the modern era,” the chairman told the Democrat.

“We've teams in football and hurling competing at all levels and they have to be funded.

“We've the development of the new training centre in Convoy to be completed so there are big demands on funds.”

The car/window sticker is the first of the fundraising initiatives for 2018.

“It's a simple car sticker supporting Donegal teams in 2018,” Mr. McGrath said.

“It has been distributed to the clubs this week and is on sale in all parts of the county through the clubs.

“It costs €20 and by buying one you are supporting Donegal teams.

“It's the supporters' way of helping out with the preparation of all our teams and I'm appealing to supporters to get your sticker and put it up in your car or shop window.”

The sticker is the first of a number of fundraisers.

The now annual Donegal Race Day is being run again, in Leopardstown Race course on June 7th.

London

A trip to London is planned for the middle of next month and a new Team Donegal Supporters Club is being launched in the UK.

The official launch of Team Donegal is May 18th. It will take place in the Hendon Golf Club and the official launch is being done by Ryder Cup golfer Paul McGinley.

Meanwhile, Donegal officials met Minister for State at the Department of Sport and Tourism Brendan Griffin on Monday evening at the new training centre in Convoy,

He was accompanied by Chief Whip Joe McHugh TD.
