Well, that's the Masters for another year. Some say not just as exciting as when Garcia put on the Green Jacket twelve months ago but what social media is playing around with may sour the taste a little for this year's champion, Patrick Reed.

On a better note from the Masters, we would like to congratulate our winners from the Masters draw which is run to raise funds for the Club every year. First Prize of €1000 went to Jean Bonnar.

€300. Martin Wilson €100. Roger Campbell. Judy McDermott, James Black, Theresa McMenamin and Drew Duncan. Thank you to everyone who bought players and supported our club.

Last Friday’s scramble was called off as it was so cold and wet but is back on this Friday. Our President has called it a mixed this week so get a partner sorted for Friday evening at 5:30pm.

Our darts team were back in action on Friday night past. This the first game since they won the league for the first time. As it was a Cup game, they were drawn against one if the top teams in the league Barca "A". Bar a were always favourites to win this game but what a fright the golfers gave them. Barca ended up winning by just one match which just shows the effort that the B&S GC guys put into their game this year

Until next Season lads....

Club Teams: B&S had two teams in action at home this week. Andy Parkinson had his Ulster Cup side take on team from Grace Hill. The local lads collected five wins out of seven so on the return leg to the beautiful Grace hill Golf Club which is set on 210 Acres of lush parkland grounds, they need to win two and a half matches to secure a second round spot. Easier said than done…

Loman O Dowd our Vice President took Charge of our All Ireland Fourball Team and got a victory in their first first leg at home to a very fancied Scrabo by 3 1/2 matches to 1 1/2 matches. A tough wee test for Loman and his youngsters away to the Newtownards men next week.

Cruit

What a fantastic weekend’s golf, weather and scoring. We started on Saturday morning with our two Captains Brendan and Anne hitting their drives for start 2018 Golf season.

Maybe not the two best or two longest ever but certainly no other two Captains teed off in such weather ever. Sun shining and little or no wind and sea dead calm. Anne was first up and excellent drive left Brendan under little pressure. However he was well drilled by Declan and took his time and did the business.

Both Captains had lots of fans and lots of cameras to make the day very special.

In scramble that followed scoring was excellent with 3 teams going round in 5 under for 9 holes.

On Sunday the weather remained beautiful and Gary Boyle shot a super 43pts to edge out Darren Gallagher on 42pts.

Gaeltacht League

It went right down to the wire but all matches were completed on Sunday last. Rosapenna pulled off an amazing 7 match to 2 match away victory in Portsalon to fall just one point short of Gweedore!

Therefore, this year’s victors are the Magheragallon men of Gweedore! Well done to Nigel Ferry and his team and congratulations and commiserations to Rosapenna for a valiant effort but coming up just short.

Clochaneely had a good return this year we a few good late results. The final standings are Gweedore 67 points, Rosapenna 66 points, Clochaneely 56 points, Dunfanaghy and Portsalon finished on 49 points and Cruit picked up the wooden spoon.

The final weekend is now upon us and with hopefully nice weather, all golfers can enjoy a round over the lovely links of Cruit Island. Although we have lost Portnoo from this year’s contest, we sincerely hope that they will be in a position to be a part of it again next year. We anticipate a great array of prizes for all competitors who make the overseas journey on Saturday and Sunday. Good luck to all.
