The senior and reserve team management for 2017 was ratified on the night with the senior and reserve teams this year being looked after by Terence Coulhoun, Anthony Kelly, Eamonn Ryan, Martin Lafferty, Terence McLaughlin, Paco McLaughlin, Stephen Grant and Neil McGilloway.
The list of managers for all underage boys teams for 2017 were confirmed after last week’s Minor board AGM. On Friday night past the club held their 20th anniversary Dinner Dance in the Redcastle Hotel.
The night rounded off what was a truly tremendous year for the club. In the crowd of over 200 we were honoured to have the president of the GAA Aogan O’Fearghail as our guest speaker. In his address he congratulated the club in all our success at both ladies and men levels throughout the year and encouraged us as a club to remain as a heart beat in the community and build on our success going forward in the future. The president also help us launch our magazine that gave a great history of the club from its formation right to the present day and hopefully over the next few years we as a club can write many more pages and make further history.
Also on the night Hugh Devenney chairman of the Donegal ladies county board was present to assist in presenting the senior ladies team the county shield, league and Donegal senior ladies championship trophies. The minor ladies also received their minor championship trophy and medals. For the men it was chairman of the Donegal men county board Sean Dunnion who presented the senior men with the division four league title and medals and the u-16 boys received their Inishowen league winners medals.
After the team awards were complete all individuals who represented the club at county level received a special token for their success and our senior Scor Ballad also received a token for winning the Donegal county Scor.
The top two highlight awards was next on the agenda and the two recipients truly deserved these individual awards. First of all it was the senior ladies player of the year and as voted by her fellow players the winner was Ciara Hegarty who went home with the honour for 2016. Well done Ciara. The final award of the night was the senior men's player of the year and again voted by his fellow teammates it was Danny Murphy who went hope with the title. Well done Danny.
Once again the committee wish to thank everyone who have contributed in anyway that made 2016 such a wonderful year we all should be so proud of ourselves.
A few dates for the diaries over the coming weeks the annual New Year’s Seven a side will take place on December 31st.Then on the 8th January 2017 our Agm will be held as we prepare to make 2017 an even more memorable year.
Well done to the Moville instrumental group who performed brilliantly at the Donegal final of Scor in Glenfin last Sunday unfortunately they were pipped at the post by a point and ended in second place. Also well done to the ballad group who performed really well on the night. Keep it all going guys you have made the club extremely proud.

They now play in the County Final in Finn Valley this Monday.

The weekly lotto draw took place on Monday 12th December 2016. The numbers drawn were 5, 13, 16 and 18. There was no jackpot winner, a number of people matched two numbers. Following a draw, the five winners of €20 each were Kathleen Gamble, Rossgier, Frankie McIntyre, Rateen, Margaret O'Hagan, Argary, Terry Breslin, Porthall and Kevin Tourish, Lifford. A workshop will be delivered by the Ulster LGFA Development Officer Ciaran Murtagh which will be a practical guide for ladies football coaches working in their clubs.
It is a practical indoor session-where a squad of U10/U12 Girls,10 to 15 players will be put through a short session/games demonstrations.

The second good cause is Cancer Care West, a charity dedicated to providing support to anyone affected by a cancer diagnosis in a safe, nurturing and accessible environment. Letterkenny Gaels Ladies are delighted to announce their Winter Ladies Football Training program. During the winter months the Circuit based training will take place indoors at the Gaels Clubroom on the Thorn Road. The training for 16s to adult continues every Friday evening. Training is open to all and new members are especially welcome.

Anyone who attends all club matches and county matches can avail of the Club Plus Season Card for €200.00. It covers all adult club games within the control of Donegal GAA, all National league games for your county, 1st round of the Ulster championship, the option to purchase a ticket for the championship should your county progress and the option to purchase an All-Ireland final ticket should your county qualify. No attendance record is required. The cards can be purchased online through gaa.ie/season tickets. If anyone has any difficulty in ordering you can contact Club Secretary Mary who can assist you.
There is also a club card, which is for club adult league and championship games only in the county and they can be purchased for €149.00. The Club AGM takes place on Sunday 8th January at 5pm in the GAA club house. Nomination forms are in Divers and can be completed and left there for collection. All nominations to be in by Sunday, 1st January, 2017.
The annual presentation awards night will take place in the GAA clubhouse on Wednesday 28th December at 8.30pm. Hot food will be served followed by the yearly awards and presentations to the 1991 U14 and minor championship winning teams of 25 years ago.
Dancing will follow afterwards to Shaun McMonagle. We hope that everyone will join with us for some food and dancing. No tickets required.
On St Stephen’s Day a 5k Run (chipped timing), walk or cycle for all the family will take place. Registration from the clubhouse at 12noon with the event starting at 1pm. Everybody welcome. Refreshments afterwards.
The Club are running an ‘Operation Motivation’. Start 2017 the right way - be healthy - lose weight. This is an eight-week fitness/weight loss programme starting in January, 2017. Registration night will be held on Monday 9th January at 7pm in the GAA Clubhouse to include weigh in etc. €5 per night with Proceeds to Pieta House and CLG Ard an Ratha. An exercise class will be held every Monday night (time tbc) and the walk/run every Thursday night (time tbc) for the eight weeks.
This will be a fun way to exercise and an opportunity to get the New Year off to a good start. This is opened to everyone and more information will follow.
The club are currently rehearsing for a comedy play ‘Widow’s Paradise’. It involves all characters from the Ardara and Portnoo areas. It is extremely funny and will give you loads of laughs. The play will be staged on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th January 2017 at 8pm and Sunday 29th at 4pm in the GAA clubhouse.
Tickets are priced at €10 and are on sale in Divers for each show. These would make an ideal Christmas Gift. Demand will be strong so it is advisable to buy early.
There was a great turnout on Friday night in the Community Centre for the Naomh Brid variety concert. The local talent that performed on the night were Barry Breslin and friends, three generations of the Mc Grory family, The Ballinakillew Dancers, Sadhbh Rooney, Barbara Edwards and the new Youth Choir, Stephen Anderson, plus Laghey and Ballintra school groups. Well done to all who took part on the night.

The club would like to extend its sincere condolences to Desmond and the family of Jackie Bonner, Derryhenny who sadly passed away last weekend. Jackie was a true Gael and a supporter of not just our senior team but right through the age grades. Their wasn't a game that Jackie would miss when her son's Eamon, Conor, Keelin and Mark would tog out in the black and white. A huge testament to Jackie and her family on the large attendance at both the wake and funeral. May she rest in peace.
