Golden haul for Mona McSharry in Irish swim finals

Marlins Swimming Club, Ballyshannon swimmer, Mona McSharry, had magnificent success at the Swim Ireland Championships in Lisburn over the weekend.

In all Mona won seven national titles, dominating the Breaststroke and Freestyle events. For the first time also, McSharry had great success in the Individual Medley events.

Over the three days of competition, McSharry was almost unbeatable. On Friday she collected three Irish titles, winning the 100m breaststroke in a time of 1.06.71. She follows that up with wins in the 200m individual medley (2.16.00) and 100m freestyle (56.56).

On Saturday, she was back in action and winning finals in the 50m freestyle (25.90) and 50m breaststroke (30.94) and 100m individual medley.

Yesterday Sunday saw McSharry finishing fourth in the 50m butterfly final before finishing the meet in style, winning one of her favourite events, the 200m breaststroke in 2:24.42.

McSharry (pictured) has been showing great improvement in the sport over a number of years and took home two medals from the European Juniors in Hungary last July - bronze in the 50m breaststroke and silver in the 100m breaststroke.
