Magees bow out in German Bitburger semi-final

Donegal badminton players Chloe and Sam Magee bowed out of the Bitburger Grand Prix at the semi-final stage on Friday afternoon.

The Raphoe brother and sister combination, who were seeded at eighth for the tournament, lost in two straight sets to the Swedish pair of Nico Ruponen and Amanda Hogstrom.

It was a disappointing end to the tournament for the Donegal siblings who had qualified for the last four at the prestigious tournament with an impressive 22-20 and 21-12 win over the highly rated German combination of Carla Nelte and Raphael Beck.

They won their first round game with a straight sets win over another German pair of Eva Janssens and Bjarne Geiss, 21-11 and 21-14.

Meanwhile also in Bitburger, Joshua and Sam Magee departed the tournament at the quarter-final stage when they lost to the English and Scottish combination of Peter Mills and Adam Hall, in the men’s doubles.

Joshua and Sam lost the quarter-final 18-21 and 15-21 after winning their first round match against Yong Kai Terry Hee and Kean Hean Loh from Singapore. They won that first round match 21-15 21-16.
