Ulster Junior Cup takes centre stage this weekend

Ulster Junior Cup takes centre stage this weekend

After last weekend’s round of games in the FAI Junior Cup, attentions turn to the Ulster Junior Cup on Sunday and there are some fascinating ties down for decision.

There are 15 games involving teams from the Donegal League, although there are only three all-Donegal League ties.

Rathmullan Celtic, going well in the Premier Division, have a home match against Gweedore Celtic; Glenea United face in-form Erne Wanderers and there’s an all Division Two clash with Ballybofey United at home to Lifford Celtic. These two sides have set the standard in their division so far, both having 100 per cent starts to their respective campaigns.

Last year’s final was won by Glengad United who beat Culdaff in the final.

Glengad begin the defence of their crown with a tricky match away to Bonagee United. Culdaff are also on their travels, they take on Lagan Harps.

Among the other stand-out ties are St. Catherine’s at home to Clonmany Shamrocks; Drumoghill FC away to Glaslough and Keadue Rovers away to Buncrana Hearts (a meeting of two former Ulster Senior League sides).

League action

There’s only one game scheduled in the Temple Domestics Appliances Division One with Cappry Rovers at home to Donegal Town.

The Hospital Field outfit moved top of the table last weekend when they won at Bonagee. They’ll be hopeful of recording another good result at Cappry on Sunday.

In the CT Ball Division, there are three matches. Dunkineely Celtic will go top of the table if they win at home to Copany Rovers. In the other games, Eany Celtic are away to Kerrykeel and Letterbarrow Celtic are at Whitestrand United.

Saturday games

On Saturday, there's a reduced programme of league fixtures because most clubs are in Ulster Shield action over this weekend.

The cup matches are scheduled over Saturday and Sunday.

Milford United at home to Illies Celtic; Glenea United v Moville and Orchard FC v Cavan Town look the stand-out ties.

In the Reserve Division, there are just two games on Saturday. Castlefinn Celtic will go top if they win at home to Keadue Rovers.
