Congratulations are extended to Letterkenny Golf Club stalwart and GUI representative, Barry Ramsay, who has recently been nominated onto the OGB [One Governing Body] club formation group.
The work group will review the current range of golf club management structures throughout Ireland and propose models of good governence for the future.
With the newly agreed amalgamation of the GUI and ILGU, both bodies have been involved in a consultation process to form a single governing body for golf in Ireland and have spoken to all key stakeholders in relation to this aspect of governance.
Following feedback from club representatives, they have now set up this wonderful opportunity to shape golf on the island of Ireland so that it will reflect a modern sport leading us into the next century.
Barry Ramsay has been appointed to this prestigious committee of seven members.
It is a single honour for him and his club, as he has been involved in change management, not only in golf, but also in his former professional life as a Social Work Manager.
Barry has been involved in golf organisation at local, county, provincial and national level since 1980 and has led his own club as Captain and President, the latter being in their centenary year of 2013, as well as being honorary secretary.
The responsibilities of this newly-formed body will be to research current club management and structures, finance, membership, courses and greens, health and safety, juniors, competitions, handicapping, marketing and legal aspects etc. of every club.
From this, the OGB will propose models of governance and prepare reports for discussion on such club models for the future of golf.
