Fresh from his Olympics debut in Rio, Mark English returned to action in England on Saturday.
He finished second to Olympic champion David Rudisha in a 500m race in Newcastle.
The race was part of the build-up to the annual Great North Run.
Over 25,000 people were out on the streets of the city to see Rudisha finish in a time of 57.69, a new record for the event.
English was close behind in 57.91. The Letterkenny man had won the race last year.
