According to the bookies Naomh Conaill and Kilcar are the two main contenders for the Donegal Senior Championship.
Naomh Conaill are listed as favourites at 100/30 while Kilcar are 7/2, just marginally second favourites.
St. Eunan’s are next on the list at 4/1 while the odds on Glenswilly will probably change from their present 5/1 with the injury to Michael Murphy.
After that come Gaoth Dobhair and St. Michael’s and the bookies are rarely far off the mark.
With St. Eunan’s out of sorts, many feel that Kilcar are the greatest challengers to the holders, Naomh Conaill.
Kilcar have been perennial contenders for a number of years, but have not performed on the big days in MacCumhaill Park. They lost out to Glenswilly and Naomh Conaill on the big days but will it be different in 2016 under Martin McHugh.
Naomh Conaill have done it when it mattered and that’s why they are favourites. They also seem to have an easier passage to the quarter-finals, but you would expect that all the big guns will be in the quarter-final draw - Naomh Conaill, Kilcar, Gaoth Dobhair, St. Eunan’s/St. Michael’s. But looking at the way the groups are shaping up there could be two big quarter-final clashes among the above four, but we won’t know that until Sunday week when the third series of games take place.
