Tori Pena misses out on final place

There was disappointment today for Tori Pena who failed to qualify for the final of the women’s pole vault at the Rio Olympics.

Tori’s best vault was 4.30m, but she needed to clear 4.45m in order to qualify. She finished 26th in her qualifying round.

From Los Alamitos in California this was the second Olympics for the 29-year-old and former American College star. She was also a member of the Irish team at the London 2012 Games.

The Californian of Irish extraction has represented Ireland at every major athletics championship since declaring for Ireland in 2010.

The holder of an American and Irish passport, she qualified for Irish citizenship through her Donegal-born grandmother.
