Shane Duffy, whose dad is from Letterkenny, was on the mark last night as he headed home the winner for Blackburn Rovers in their EFL Cup Win over Mansfield Town.
The home side, Mansfield, should have gone ahead through CJ Hamilton but he failed to take advantage of loose passing from the Blackburn defence.
Rovers broke the deadlock through Irish striker Anthony Stokes, whose shot took a big deflection off Mansfield defender Lee Collins before finding its way into the back of the net.
Mitchell Rose levelled for Mansfield after the half-time break, but it was Duffy who replied for Rovers as he rose highest to head home what would be the game’s winning goal.
Two minutes later Anthony stokes got on the end of a cross to for his brace and wrapped up the cup tie for Blackburn. Duffy and Rovers progress to the second round of the cup. The draw takes on the Wednesday night, August 10th and Premier League clubs will be in the mix.
