Aodh Ruadh drop first points in Buncrana

Aodh Ruadh suffered their first defeat of the season when losing to Buncrana, on Saturday night, at the Scarvey in Buncrana.

In a close encounter a late Garbhan Friel goal clinched the points for the Inishowen men after they had moved a couple of points clear before Friel sealed the win for the locals with a late goal.

The sides were level 0-6 each at half-time with Diarmaid McInerney (2), Seamus Kane (2), Michael ‘Sticky’ Ward and Paddy Gillespie scoring the first half Aodh Ruadh points.

The introduction of Kevin Treacy for the second half gave Buncrana a little more ball winning ability up front.

Treacy, who is carrying an injury, kicked a good point and also set up scores for Oisin and Odhran Doherty.

Aodh Ruadh did pull two points back in the closing minutes but the Inishowen men held on to move into second place on their own, five adrift of Aodh Ruadh and two ahead of Downings

Downings did not field against Letterkenny Gaels on Saturday night.

Big win for Naomh Brid

Shane Walsh and Paul McGrory scored the goals as Naomh Brid got their All County Division Three ambitions back on track against Naomh Ultan in Fr Tierney Park, Ballyshannon.

Walsh struck for the first goal on six minutes after Naomh Brid got off to a flying start and a 1-2 to 0--0 score lead. And McGrory added the second ten minutes later to open up a 2-3 to 0-1 lead by the middle of the opening half. Cian Kennedy, from a close in free, kicked Naomh Ultan’s only point of the first quarter.

With David Walsh continuing his comeback to fitness and playing well at wing-back, Naomh Brid continued to dictate and led 2-7 to 0-2 at half-time.

David Walsh (2) and one each from Shane Walsh and McGrory raised the white flags for Naomh Brid in the opening half with Daniel Gallagher responding for the black and ambers.

With the points as good as in the bag Naomh Brid just about shaded the second half against a much improved Naomh Ultan.

Naomh Ultan needed goals in the second half but were denied by a number of good saves, including one from an Alan Lyons’ penalty by Pauric McDaid in the Naomh Brid goals

Conal Rooney, Declan McCafferty, Shane Walsh, Paul McGrory and Tommy Gallagher scored the Naomh Brid second half points.

Dermot Gallier, Cian Kennedy and Peter Alvey responded for Naomh Ultan.

Naomh Colmcille secure good away win

Lee Toland scored the goal that proved to be the crucial score in this bottom of the table clash away to Gaeil Fhanada, on Saturday evening.

Toland also posted two points and Joe Donaghy kicked four points in what was a big win for Naomh Colmcille against an understrength Gaeil Fhanada.
