Brendan shines in Spain

Pride of place at Letterkenny 24/7 Triathlon club goes this week to Brendan Murphy who took part as an elite Duathlete in the World Championship race in Aviles in Spain.

He raced against the top duathletes in the world in the standard distance race. The winning time of 1.42.18 shows that it was a world class field.

Meanwhile the 24/7 club had a very successful Aquathon on Friday.

There were three races, a junior race, an intermediate race, and a senior race. The event was organized by Paul Doherty and he excelled himself in his attention to detail.

The main race involved a 750 metre swim in Gartan Lough followed by a 5k run around the Gartan estate. It was followed by refreshments and prize giving in the boat house. We are fortunate in Donegal to have such a facility open to the public and the club extends again their thanks to Gartan Outdoor and Education Centre for the use of this wonderful facility.

There were 16 children in the junior race, eleven adults in the short race and 44 r adults in the main race. Full results are on the club website page.

The nature of triathlon is such that club members take part in many different events. There were 24/7 members taking part in Ras Dun na nGall and other members taking part in the long distance swimming competition in Sligo. Closer to home we had a father and son go head to head in the Letterkenny Gaels 5k

Karen Crawford was second female in a time of 15.42 in the 1k swim in Rosses Point on Sunday.

Gavin Harris and Eugene McGettigan acquitted themselves well in the three day cycling event based in Ardara ran by Four Masters cycling club.

Junior member Michel Sweeney finished just behind his father Brian.
