Kevin Doran was the Rathmullan Celtic hero when his goal ensured that his team will be playing Premier Division football next season.
Rathmullan Celtic 2
Donegal Town 1
Doran scored the winner in yesterday’s Donegal League Promotion/Relegation play-off at Diamond Park, Ballyare.
Donegal Town, seeking promotion from Division One, certainly made it a difficult task for Rathmullan in what was a very even contest.
They hadn’t played in three weeks after losing out on automatic promotion when they lost their play-off with Convoy Arsenal at the beginning of the month.
It was Rathmullan who struck first in yesterday’s tie - David Millar scoring after 18 minutes.
But David Graham, who has enjoyed a tremendous season in attack for Donegal Town, scored the equaliser just before half time.
Doran’s goal arrived shortly before the hour mark. He pounced to score after Dara Patton’s shot was saved.
It gave Rathmullan the victory to ensure they end their campaign on a high.
The Donegal League season draws to a close next Sunday when Milford United and Castlefin Celtic meet in the final of the Brian McCormick Sports Cup.
Diamond Park, Ballyare is the venue with the game kicking off at 2pm.
