Wednesday 27th Open sponsored by Signal Signs, Letterkenny once again proved to be very popular with visitors' entries but taking top spot on the rostrum, albeit with the help of a four-way B.O.T., was the club's cat 4 member Paul Doherty [20] who followed a double bogey at Glebe [2nd] with a birdie at Swilly [3rd] only for a 'blank' at Greenhill [8th] to leave him recording 20pts on outward nine and, with a tremendous par at the index one 6th hole [The Isle] a finish of 38pts and to relegate Enda Mannion [13] to runner-up. Despite a double bogey at 3rd, Enda managed 21pts on front nine but two further back-to-back double bogeys at 10th [Cornagill] and 11th [Settlement] had him finish stalemate with the winner.

Saturday 30th Open, sponsored by Crumlish Appliances, Letterkenny, was won by cat 2 member Mark Howard [13]. With a birdie at Glebe [par 5 second] followed by a 'blank' at 3rd [Swilly], Mark still recorded 21pts on front nine and, while scoring steadily on inward nine, a double bogey at par three 16th [Barnhill], almost cost him top spot for chipping his way to a close second was William White [11] who, with the help of a birdie at 16th and also a B.O.T., relegated Karol Harvey [16] and Tony Duffy [22] to third and fourth places respectively.

Sunday 1st May confined stableford was won by the club's house convenor Enda Mannion [12] who followed his second placing on Wednesday by one place better to take top spot with 37pts., his card consisting of 21pts on front nine and 'blanks' at 12th [Sheep Hill] and 17th [Aughaninshin].

Bank Holiday Monday 2nd May Open was won with the help of another B.O.T. when Bryan Kelly [13] recorded an outward nine of a steady 19pts and, with a birdie at Candalabra [15th] followed by a 'blank' at 17th, still managed to relegate Shane Blaney [20] to runner-up spot. Shane then also had a 'blank' at 17th but answered that with a birdie at the par five 18th [Stockade].

Congratulations to members Tony Logue and Martin Mc Fadden who have both recorded 'aces' in recent competitions.

Competitions will continue on Saturday 7th with the annual Hegarty Ford Auto Services Open, the club confined competition on Sunday and the Donaghey Van Centre Open on Wednesday 11th.

Please note that the Browns on the Green club classic, due to be held on Saturday next 14th, has been postponed to a later date.

Commiserations to the club teams of Jimmy Bruen, who failed to qualify for the matchplay stages from Sunday last, the Fred Daly team who were defeated in their second round match v competition hot favourites Malone GC and also to the Ulster Cup team who have it all to do in their return leg v Mayobridge GC when they came away from the Newry venue with a six match to one deficit on Monday past. Wishing every success to the John Russell led Pierce Purcell team on their qualifying attempt at Dunfanaghy GC on Sunday 8th.
