McLaughlin leads LYIT to first Donaghy Cup

Letterkenny IT are celebrating a first ever Ladies Gaelic Football Donaghy Cup All- Ireland title following Tuesday final triumph over IT Blanchardstown.

Letterkenny IT . . . . . 4-15

IT Blanchardstown . 3-15

Donegal and Termon scoring ace Geraldine McLaughlin once more was in scintillating form as she scored an amazing 4-12 in the three point victory over the Dublin College. The final was played on the 3G pitch on the UCD in Dublin.

“It was a brilliant individual performance from Geraldine who showed her class once agains as a the best forward in Ladies Gaelic football,” said LYIT manager Eamon O’Boyle.

“She is a brilliant leader both on and off the field and is a terrific captain. “But it was also a brilliant all round team performance and the ball going into Geraldine was quality ball,” added the former St Eunan’s manager.

LYIT defeated IT Tallaght in the semi-final last week thanks to 4-4 from McLaughlin and 4-3 for Emma McCroary.

“It is a great achievement and is the first time the College have won the competition and it is no more than they deserve. They worked very hard for the success.

LYIT lost the league semi-final before Christmas to St Mary’s College in Belfast, but Tuesday’s success over a fancied It Blanchardstown more than compensates.
