Blaze teams preparing for All Ireland Championships

Blaze teams preparing for All Ireland Championships

Next weekend, April 9th/10th both the Blaze under 14 boys and under 14 girls will play in the All Ireland Club Championships having qualified from the North West region.

The boys will make the long journey to Tralee to meet their opponents from North East and BNI in their pool. How they do in their pool will dictate who they play thereafter but it's likely to be any of Munster, Kerry or Kilkenny.

The girls travel to the Antrim Forum just outside Belfast where they are in a pool with Mayo (most likely Kiltimagh) and Kerry (Tralee Imperials).

Both Blaze teams have been putting in extra training sessions to sharpen their skills as the standard of competition at these tournaments is really high.

The following weekend 16th/17th April sees the Blaze U16 boys and U16 girls play in the All Irelands.

The North West Area Board are hosting this year’s U16 Girls AICC’s which are to be held in Letterkenny. The venues for the tournament are the Loreto Secondary School, Aura Leisure Centre and the LYIT.

All details are on the Blaze Basketball website

The girls' opponents are North East and Midlands. Other teams visiting Letterkenny are from North East, Mayo, Galway, Kilkenny, North Munster and Basketball Northern Ireland.

Great opportunity

The finals weekend will be a great opportunity for both basketball enthusiasts and novices to drop in to see some great basketball on display. The Blaze club would especially encourage all their younger members to come out to see a competitive game. These tournaments are what these age groups aspire to all year.

Also that weekend the Blaze U16 boys are again in Kerry, this time the tournament being hosted by Castleisland.

They will meet Basketball NI and Mayo in their pool and again, depending on how they do, they will play any of North East, Kilkenny or Midlands. Each team plays at least five games over the weekend.
