Ollie Horgan’s first game in charge at Finn Park ended in stalemate as Harps and Waterford shared the points at Finn Park on Friday night
Finn Harps 0
Waterford United 0
Both teams had opportunities to wiin this game in a lively encounter. The better of the chances fell to the visitors while for Harps, new signing, Ruairi Keating struck the post on the hour.
But Harps will be happy with the point. Waterford are among the favourites in First Division this season and at times they got on top in this game - especially during the first half.
Even after the break, they had their chances - Conor Meade denied by Harps keeper, Winn while close to the end, Patrick Barrett shot over the bar when he should have found the target.
Harps included three new signings in goalkeeper, Conor Winn, midfielder Carel Tiofack and striker, Ruairi Keating while Packie Mailey, back at the club after a season away from Harps, started in at centre half alongside Keith Cowan.
The visitors had the better of the opening 45 minutes and were probably unfortunate not to be leading at the break.
Conor Meade was denied an opening goal on 11 minutes when Conor Winn saved with his legs. The same two players were involved again a short time later, Winn scampering back to tip Meade’s delicate chip over the crossbar.
Waterford’s best chance in that first half fell to midfielder, Brian Nolan, but from 8 yards, he scuffed his shot and Winn was able to save.
At the other end, Harps struggled to muster any real efforts of note - Ciaran Coll, racing into attack from left back, had his team’s best moment but he shot over from a good position.
Keating had Harps best chance in the second half, hitting the post following a Tiofack corner. Pat McCann also went close, shooting wide following good approach play down the right.
