Stoke City veteran Rory Delap is ready to wreck Bolton Wanderers’ survival hopes on Sunday.
Bolton must win to stand any chance of saving their top-flight status - but Delap has shown little sentiment to Owen Coyle’s side.
“We want to finish our season on a high and not just let it peter out,” said Delap, who father John is from Letterkenny. “We want to give our fans something to shout about. It’s great for us that the teams we are playing have got something on it, but we are desperate to finish well ourselves.”
A home win on Sunday would enable Stoke to equal their highest ever points total in the Premier League - 47 - although the former Republic of Ireland international admits it was a marathon but enjoyable season after the midlanders played in the Uefa Europa League.
“It would be nice to equal it,” said Delap of the points total. ‘We can’t say it’s because of Europe that we haven’t done better, but we will have a bit longer to prepare for next season and not have so much travelling to do. But I would still rather be in Europe given the choice.”
