President’s Day: Last week we had the great pleasure in competing in Dr Sweeney’s Presidents Day. On Thursday we played in the qualifier with all the ladies battling to be in pole position to play again on Sunday. The very inclement weather really proved a test of golf, however the lady in form at the minute is Anne Davey who returned a superb 69 to lead the way. Dr Sweeney was on hand to sweeten up the ladies with goodies of all kinds and provide a sympathetic ear to those who had to bow out of the competition for another year. Sunday morning bright and early, 7 brave soldiers appeared at 8:30am in their bid for glory. Sheila, Berni, Noreen and a special mention to Geraldine Doherty, were first on the tee box. Celine, Brid and Anne swiftly followed. With the strong gales blowing poor Geraldine all over the place, she put in a great effort and led the way until the 10th hole. Her race for the title ended there. The downpours of heavy rain soon saw a few more of the ladies sliding down the leaderboard. Noreen got her game back on track and returned the best score of the day but alas yet again was not enough to overtake the eventual winner, Celine Markey, who has proved that she can really get down to business when the majors come round. Well done to all who played over the two days and congratulations to Dr Sweeney on a great few days.
Full results: 1st Celine Markey, 2nd Noreen Mc Garvey, 3rd Brid Mulhern, 4th Sheila Doherty. F9 Anne Davey B9 Carmel Bonner. Well done to Johndy Boyle on winning the overall Presidents Prize. Huge thanks to Margaret Rose, Jimmy and girls for the outstanding food on Sunday night.
