THANKS to a strong second half display, Kilcar proved too good for Malin in Towney although the final scoreline may be a little flattering as two of the goals came in the final minutes.
The opening half was well contested with the sides level at 1-4 each, but in the last quarter county star Patrick McBrearty came to the fore and his final tally of 2-6, all from play, was the difference between the sides.
Mark McHugh, despite being reported as doubtful for the Tyrone game during the week, came on as a substitute and made a vital contribution scoring two points. The opening six points were shared with McBrearty (2) and Eoin McHugh for Kilcar being canclled by Stephen McLaughlin, Seamus Houton and Anthony Kelly by the 17th minute.
McBrearty edged Kilcar back in front before Seamus Houton had the first goal of the game after a Declan Walsh shot was blocked.
Houton added a point but Kilcar got back on terms just before half time when Barry Doherty finished with a clinical goal after good approach work by Michael Hegarty and Stephen Shovlin.
The first four points of the second half were shared with Stephen McLaughlin and Terence Doherty for Malin and Ryan McHugh and Ciaran McGinley for Kilcar.
Then McBrearty pushed Kilcar clear with points in the 36th and 44th minutes and the home side took control in the final quarter with a string of points from Ryan McHugh, McBrearty and two from Mark McHugh by the 56th minute.
McBrearty finished the game well with goals in the 57th and 59th minute and Eoin McHugh had the final point.,
