Stranorlar boxer Jason Quigley will be boxing for gold on Saturday after winning his semi-final bout against Ievgen Khytrove of the Ukraine today in the European Boxing Championships in Minsk, Belarus
Quigley accounted for the No. 1 seed on a scoreline of 30-27, 28-29, 30-27 to secure a place in the final.
The 22-year-old will now meet Romanian Bogdan Juratoni, the No. 2 seed, in Saturday’s final.
This is the Finn Valley Boxing Club star’s first senior championships, having won European titles at junior and U-23.
Amazingly, it is his 23rd senior win in-a-row. Quigley defeated Olympian Darren O’Neill to win the Irish Elite title and he is one of three Irish boxers through to the finals. John Joe Nevin and Paddy Barnes were also successful while Michael Conlan fights for a final place later on today.
RTE will show highlights of the semi-finals this evening at 6.30 and they will also beam the finals live on Saturday.
