St Eunan’s continued their excellent league form of late to post their ninth successive win, showing no mercy as they hammered county champions Glenswilly on Sunday.
St Eunan’s 3-12
The Letterkenny side were dominant from start to finish as they brushed aside the flimsy challenge of their neighbours. Both teams get their championship underway this coming weekend as St Eunan’s welcome Kilcar on Saturday, while Glenswilly travel to Gaoth Dobhair on Sunday.
St Eunan’s led comfortably at the interval, 3-5 to 0-2 in front. Corner-back Conor Parke set them on their way with the first point of the afternoon and that initial lead was doubled with John Haran took advantage of a fumble by Eamon Ward.
Aidan McDevitt scored Glenswilly’s first point but that was merely respite as St Eunan’s continued to take charge. Parke joined the attack again to score again and Sean McVeigh was on the mark to give the hosts a 0-4 to 0-1 lead.
Twenty-three minutes in, St Eunan’s stretched their advantage further when Haran netted, following a ball in by Kieran Sharkey. Gary McFadden replied for the away team moments later but the roof soon fell in on Glenswilly as the half bore to a close.
Two minutes from the break, Glenswilly goalkeeper Ciaran Molloy spilt a harmless Peter Devine shot and St Eunan’s had a second goal. Then, just a minute later, after another ball in from Sharkey, Conor Gibbons slammed home a third St Eunan’s goal.
The pattern of the first half showed little in the way of deviation and McVeigh knocked over his second point of the afternoon and Darragh Mulgrew also got his name on the scoresheet.
Keelan McFadden did point to give the beleaguered away support something to cheer but a couple of Devine scores, McVeigh, substitute Mark McGowan and Haran were all second half point scorers for the O’Donnell Park outfit. Gary McFadden went for goal late on but his shot was turned over the crossbar by Damian Martin.
