Errigal Cycling Club’s Amy Harkin, Ciara Doogan, Christine Russell and Orla Fogarty will represent Ulster at the Sainsbury’s School Games.
This is a multi-sport event for the UK’s elite young athletes in Sheffield from September 12-15.
Gortahork’s Ciara Doogan, 15, took fifth place in the Lakeside Mullingar GP Elite Senior Ladies Race. She received special dispensation from Cycling Ireland to help develop her talent.
Errigal last week promoted a Three-Stage race. Stage One, a time trial, was won by Aaron McBride after it was hotly contested with Eddie Sweeney. Young Evan Donaghue proved strongest in the A4 race.
Stage two comprised of a 50-mile road race. The A2/A3 race finished with an exciting eight-man sprint with Eddie Sweeney taking it.
This strong finish put Sweeney in pole position to take the event. Evan Donaghue put in a dominating performance to finish over a minute ahead of the main group in the A4 race.
Stage three, 50 miles, was hotly contested up until the final climb when Aaron McBride put in a strong performance to take the A2/A3 stage win with Eddie Sweeney second and Dinny Doherty third.
The A4 race saw Rosa Doherty finishing with a strong sprint to take the final stage. Donaghue’s Saturday performance secured his first place with Eamonn McBrearty send and Charlie Gallagher third.
Monday night’s time trial results were as follows: Senior Event (10mls), 1st Charlie Gallagher (28.23), 2nd Andrew Rough (29.43), 3rd Ciaran McFadden (29.45). Senior Event (5mls), 1st Brendan McGrenra (16.30), 2nd Louise Alcorn (17.18), 3rd Packie Ferry (17.20). Youth Event (5mls), 1st PJ Doogan (14.01), 2nd Conor Halvey (14.04), 3rd Christine Russell (14.30).
Errigal CC’s run will depart at 10am on Saturday from the Anagary car park. The Sunday Club run will depart from Termon at 9am.
