Last weekend the club had three junior players taking part in the third National Under14 & Under16 Irish Ranking Tournaments.
Sean Devenney, Ronan Whyte and Eamon Harkin travelled all the way to Douglas snooker club in Cork City, along with their coach John Doherty who owns the North West Snooker Club in Letterkenny.
It was a weekend of mixed of fortunes for the young players. Sean and Ronan were taking part in both age categories with Eamon playing only in the Under16. Unfortunately in the Under16 tournament Eamon Harkin was beaten 2-1 in the 1st round by Adam Bulman. Sean also lost 2-0 to Keane Mc Carthy from Cork. Ronan won his first match 2-1 but was defeated in the second round 2-0 by Shane Hourihane from Cork.
In the Under14 section, Ronan was beaten by Ross Bulman from Dublin 2-1 in the first round, while Sean Devenney received a bye. In the Q-final Sean beat Ross Bulman 2-0 and then played Corey Ramsbottom from Carlow in the Semi taking the match after a long battle by 2-1 after being 1 -0 down.
For the second tournament in a row Sean was in the final but in a close fought competition he lost 2-0 to Fergal Quinn from Cookstown. This moves Sean up to second place in the Irish rankings, which can be checked out on www.RIBSA.ie.
Well done and congratulations to Sean and all the players who will now be getting ready for the National Championships at the end of April, with places on the Irish team to play in The Celtic Challenge against Wales still up for grabs.
The North West Open Snooker tournament is taking place on Good Friday, 18th April starting at 10.30am.
