Eleven of Errigal Cycling Club’s youth team travelled on a 280 mile round trip, to Donaghadee at the weekend to race in the North Down Grand Prix.

Eleven of Errigal Cycling Club’s youth team travelled on a 280 mile round trip, to Donaghadee at the weekend to race in the North Down Grand Prix.

In the U12 race young Donal Walsh from Dungloe broke free from the bunch on the circuits only climb to come home in first place with team mate Odhran Doogan taking 2nd for an Errigal one two.

The success was repeated in the following U14 race with PJ Doogan and Conor Halvey breaking away with Harry Dow from North Down. Following a puncture the North Down cyclist had to retire leaving it for PJ and Conor to sprint it out with Conor pipping PJ on the line for another win in what is turning out to be a breakthrough season for the young Letterkenny lad.

In the U16 race Ciara Doogan had to retire following a mechanical problem whilst Jordan McGinley and Micahel McBride also had to retire in the A2 race. Also riding well for Errigal at the weekend was Joe Harkin, Adam Harkin, Dylan Traynor, Shauna McFadden, Michael McGlynn and Ronan McCann.

Hills of Donegal Tour

If you fancy a challenge and want to cycle some of the toughest roads in the Northwest or simply enjoy a leisurely ride through some of the most scenic sights in Ireland then mark the 14th June in your diary as Errigal’s “Hills of Donegal” Sportive 2014 takes place on this date.

With a choice of the demanding 150km and 120km routes or the shorter 100km route there is something for everyone in what is now a very popular non-competitive sportive. Together with the Donegal hospitality, quiet country roads and plenty of climbs varying in gradients, the steepest been 14%...the event has a well-earned reputation for providing a great days cycling.

Registration for the event is on the day with the sign on (€15) at the Lagoon bar in Termon on the main N56 between Letterkenny and Dunfanaghy from 8:15am on the Saturday morning.

Errigal Youth League: Race 3 in the Errigal Youth League series will take place on Sunday 15th June in Churchill with the first race off at 11am, and with everything wide open on all age groups a large field is expected in what is turning out to be one of the best events in the Irish youth racing calendar.

Women’s Tour: The inaugural Errigal Woman’s Tour will take place on Tuesday 17th June starting at with a 7pm from the Lagoon Bar in Termon where the sign on will take place from 6.15pm, as with many of Errigal’s events this one has a charitable basis with donations to the Donegal Women’s Domestic Violence Service in Letterkenny. With a choice of either 17 or 30 mile relatively flat courses from Termon to Ramelton to Milford to Termon (Ray bridge for longer course) the event is designed to be suitable for all levels from beginners with mountain bikes to more experienced. Refreshments will be served afterwards in the Lagoon bar.

Errigal Team Time Trial: Following on from the successful event held in March last, Errigal are holding another Team Time Trial that will follow the same format as last time. The event will take place on Monday 16th June with a the sign on at the Lagoon in Termon from 6.45pm with the first team off at 7pm sharp. Teams to be 4 riders with a maximum of 2A1/A2/A3 in each team (youth participants restricted to U14 & U16s), the time will be taken for the 4th cyclist across the

Club Run for Beginners

There will be a club leisure run that is suitable for beginners leaving at 7pm on Thursday from Sweeney’s Garage in Ray, Falcaragh. Anyone who is interested in taking up cycling is invited to attend as the pace will be controlled. For more information call Paul McFadden on 0866031176.
