Sunday last, 8th June saw one of the biggest Regatta’s in Donegal Town in many years. There were 48 teams from 9 different clubs competing on the day.
There was competition in 10 different category’s ranging from U14, U16, U18, U21 and Senior Men’s and Women’s. In the space of three and a half hours, some 240 individual rowers and coxswain’s had competed on the water at the picturesque location of Donegal Town pier. The Regatta was organised with military precision by the host club, Donegal Bay Rowing Club, and it’s with thanks to all the clubs and crews who took part, that the regatta was completed in a very efficient manner.
On the water there was a good spread of the spoils! Youth rowing was very evident in all clubs. Killybegs Senior Ladies picked up their second win of the season on the back of a win in Fintown the week before as did Inver’s under 14 Boys. The Killybegs ladies held off stiff competition from Kincasslagh and Cloughaneely to win a thrilling final.
In the men’s final the supremacy of the Rosses clubs was evident with Kincasslagh proving too strong in the final and Cloughaneely crew coming a close second with the Mountcharles mens taking third.
The host club, Donegal Bay Rowing Club, would like to sincerely thank all the local businesses who continue to support the club. Their generosity allowed the club to run a very successful Regatta.
