Donegal League: Pride of place & prominence in this week’s club notes must be given to our Donegal League team on their fantastic achievement on winning the Donegal League Cup. The magnificent cup held centre stage in our club-rooms on Sunday night, surrounded by the victorious team and team team captain Ivan Stewart, and celebrating with them Club Captain Michael Mc Glynn & Club President Sean O’Donnell and club members, it was indeed an uplifting scene of joy and sense of achievement. The team who in the away leg of the final last week in Strabane against the home club had the hard work done by winning 3-2 finished off the final in style in the home leg by defeating Strabane by 3 &1/2 matches to 1&1/2 matches in atrocious conditions on Sunday. On the day the team were Joseph Mc Menamin / Billy Madden, Freddie Wilson / Tony Griffin (hope I spelt your name right Tony), Patsy O’ Donnell / John Mc Caughan (snr), Lorcan Donnellan / Andy Parkinson, John Bradley / Fergus Mc Menamin. Representing the Donegal League to make the presentation of the cup & medals were Paddy Carr & Donal Mc Bride. Proud team captain Ivan Stewart who kept his team focussed throughout the competition praised his lads for their commitment, and he informed me that the last time the club won this competition was way back in 1997. So congratulations to them on their achievement, and needless to say the celebrations continued into the wee small hours.
