The 2013/14 Donegal Schools Rugby season is about to kick off with schools from all over the county getting ready to take part.
Although a relatively new sport in Donegal, rugby is now hugely popular throughout the county with schools and clubs from all corners of Donegal competing in U18, U16’s and U14sboys leagues as well as two girls leagues.
The success and popularity of the sport throughout Donegal is due to the success of the Donegal Community Rugby Project (DCRP) which began in 2006 with the aim of promoting Rugby throughout the county.
Local schools and their coaches have throughout the years with the help of the DCRP and the Ulster Branch been training and up-skilling to deliver quality sessions to interested students in secondary schools throughout the county.
Schools from south Donegal such as St. Catherine’s in Killybegs compete with schools in the east and west of the county - Mulroy College, Loreto Milford and St. Columba’s College as well as St. Eunan’s.
Crana College and Carndonagh CS in the North West also compete amongst many others. Should your school wish to find out more about introducing Rugby in your school please contact email@example.com.
