Letterkenny Ladies

Thankfully the snow has stayed well east of us and the Captains Drive-In, postponed earlier this month, has been re-scheduled for this coming Sunday 12th February. Tea and biscuits will be served in the clubhouse at 11am, followed by the draw for the scramble. Stew will be served post golf. Best wishes to Captain Niall O’Donnell, Lady Capain Angela Kilgallen and President Padraic Munnelly.

The recent 9 hole competition was won by Marion O’Sullivan 18 points B.O.T. Runner up was Bridget McClafferty 18 points. Some ladies apparently hoping Marion peaks too early this season!

By popular demand, the weekly golf trivia and knowledge section has returned. Kicking off this week is the rule that cost Rory McIlroy his win last week.

Line of Putt: The most important thing to know about the line of putt is that it only exists if your ball is on the putting green. If your ball is on the fringe, a line of putt does not exist for you.

With that in mind, the line of putt is the line the player wants her ball to follow, after a stroke on the putting green.

Note: The line of putt does not extend past the hole.

Several club members have expressed an interest in attending the Irish Open this year on a day trip. Details will be posted on the notice board this weekend to see if there is enough interest in organising a bus. This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to see the world’s top golfers in action.

The annual Drive-In has been confirmed for Saturday, 3rd March. The club welcomes the Daisy Cutters Golf Society from Sharkey’s Bar in Annagry for an outing this Saturday.

Taking advantage of the good weather on Sunday, Gerard Duffy shot a fine 42pts playing off 6. Gerard now goes to a handicap of 5 and as a result his handicap is under the control of the GUI. But his score was not good enough to prevent the in-form Kieran Sweeney from winning on a BOT. Gerard’s brother in law Michael Collum finished 3rd with a fine 41 pts.

On Saturday on a very wet day, Gerrard Harkin playing off 17 shot a great 41 pts to win. This week’s competitions are all 18 hole and take place on Wednesday Saturday and Sunday.

Members are reminded the the sheet for the Spring League, once again generously sponsored by Murphy Maintenance is up on the board.

The club mourns the sad passing of member John James Doherty , may he rest in peace.
