Donegal boxers off to Philadelphia

A group of Donegal boxers are in the middle of their preparations for a trip to Philadelphia to compete in a major boxing tournament.

Ten Donegal boxers and seven Donegal officials will fly out to Philadelphia on Wednesday November 2nd for the tournament which is on Friday night, November 4th, in the Clarion Hotel, Essington, Philadelphia.

The Donegal boxers will link up with boxers from Derry, Tyrone and Monaghan for the six day trip.

The tournament has been put together by Dan Mullarkey of the ‘Must Box Gym’ in Philadelphia.

Former Dunfanaghy BC coach, Brendan Ward, who resides in the US is also one of the tournament organisers.


The Donegal boxers making the trip are Odhran McGinley, Dunfanaghy; Oisin Wallace, Dungloe; Ciara Craig, Dunfanaghy; Dennis Lafferty, Raphoe; Odhran Mc Ruairi, Dungloe; Bryan McNamee, Convoy; Sean Kelly, Dunfanaghy; Matthew McCole, Dungloe; Orin McDermott, Raphoe, and Mark McCole, Dungloe.

The Donegal coaches making the trip are Eddie and Joe Harkin, Dunfanaghy BC; Gerard Keaveney, Raphoe BC; Dominic McCafferty, Convoy BC, and Jim McCole, Dungloe BC.

The Donegal party will be completed by judge/referee Michael McDermott and Donegal board President Peter O’ Donnell, Raphoe.

Collective training for the boxers from Donegal, Derry, Tyrone and Monaghan will take place on Sunday morning next in Raphoe BC from 11 am sharp.
