The Donegal Town girls, with Julianna Murphy, Caroline Breslin, Charlene McHugh, Ciara Mooney, Tara Khan and Michelle Breslin in sparking form, ran out comfortable winners to maintain their superiority over the girls from the banks of the Erne.

Saturday  night’s victory was the Kevin Sinclair coached Donegal Town girls' seventh straight win over their neighbours and arch rivals and is a brilliant start to the league by the locals girls.

The result was never in doubt from very early as Donegal Town pressed from the off and thanks to early baskets from Caroline Breslin (2) and Michaela Breslin and two free shots from Charlene McHugh, they led 10 -4 at the end of the first quarter.

Dearbhla  Hoey and Mairead Loughlin scored the Ballyshannon baskets late in the quarter.

The winners pushed on in the second quarter and with further baskets from Julianna Murphy, Ciara Mooney, Charlene McHugh, Tara Khan, Emma McKinley and single points from McHugh and Molly Carty, they led 28-10 at halftime.

Shelley Laughlin and Aoife Dolan (2) hit the baskets for the Ballyshannon girls who had stepped up their performance and their second quarter play deserved a few more scores on the boards as Aoife Dolan, Shelley Loughlin Dearbhla Hoey and Mairead Loughlin took the fight to their hosts.

Julianna Murphy and Ruta Balezentyte  hit early baskets to extend the Donegal Town lead. But as they continued to step up their performance Mairead and Shelley Loughlin responded to leave it 31 -14 three minutes into the third quarter.

But with Donegal Town sensing a Ballyshannon revival, the locals hit the gas again and Tara Khan (2), Julianna Murphy (2) and two single free shots left the locals 40 -16 in front at the end of the third quarter. Shelley Laughlin, who refused to buckle, scored Ballyshannon’s basket of the quarter.

The final quarter was all Donegal Town as they took complete control and Ballyshannon’s brave efforts finally wilted. Julianna Murphy was the star of the final quarter. The energetic Murphy, who was full of energy throughout, hit three baskets as Charlene Coughlin, Michaela Breslin  and Caroline Breslin  all posted late points.

The only down side of the victory for Donegal Town was a knee injury suffered by one of the stars of the night Charlene McHugh. The Ardara woman suffered a ligament injury in the knee.
