Burtonport 'has become a carpark' - Cllr

Burtonport has been turned into a carpark, it has been claimed this week by a local councillor.
Sinn Fein Cllr Marie Therese Gallagher made the claim at Tuesday’s meeting of the Glenties Municipal District and called for Burtonport to be given precedence in terms of the village renewal programme.
“It is is bedlam in Burtonport with cars parking there,” said Cllr Gallagher.
“Tourists and locals park theret to get the ferry to Arranmore Island with some of the cars left in the area overnight,” said Cllr Gallagher.
She said that car parking in the area was particularly bad at the beginning of the month.
Funding was granted in 2017, through the village renewal scheme for lining and marking out of parking spaces in the village.
And the councillor is now calling on that funding to be released so the marking work can be done.
But this is only seen as an interim decision measure. There is also a major €3.3 million development plan prepared by the department of the marine for the development of the port area.
