Letterkenny town councillor Tadhg Culbert has said the highlight of his year in office was the turning of the sod on the new water and sewage treatment works in the town.
Reporting to the council at the end of his third term as mayor, he said he attended over 120 official functions. “I hope I have represented you and the town as best I could and always gave my utmost to ensure the office of mayor was respected as it should be.”
Other highlights of the year included the 400 anniversary celebrations in the town and the regeneration work on the main street. “It transformed the streetscape into a modern town centre of which we can all be proud of. A town at a standstill is not vibrant and despite these recessionary times I see a spirit of determination and goodwill among the business community that will, turn things around eventually.”
He also gave encouragement to those involved in the Tidy Towns committee to carry on their great work which and he said he was hopeful that all the work that has been done will bear fruit with a national title.
