Gaoth Dobair needs more bins for bottle bank

Derrybeg Bottle Bank

The Cathaoirleach of Glenties Municipal District has asked for more bins at the Derrybeg site where bottles and cans are disposed of for recycling.
Sinn Féin Councillor John Shéamais Ó'Fearraigh said the state in which the area is left at times is “shameful.”
He said: “More bins are needed there, especially in the summer. The bins should be emptied on a more regular basis too.”
He added that a number of people had been fined for the manner in which they disposed of litter in recent weeks.
The Brinalack-based politician said there may be a need for a second plot due to the pressure this area is under.
Cameras have been erected in the area to detect those who are causing litter problems at the bottle bank.

Litter warden
Councillors were told that a litter warden patrols the area and CCTV is being used at the site.
The coastal officer with Donegal County Council, David Friel, described the site as one of the busiest in the county.
He said the bottle bank had unfortunately ‘suffered some element of abuse’ recently.
