The funeral of country legend Big Tom takes place this morning
Daniel and Margo O'Donnell are among the many stars of Irish country music who have turned out to celebrate the life of Big Tom whose funeral is being held in County Monaghan this morning.
Requiem Mass is being celebrated in St Patrick's Church, Oram, Castleblayney by Father Leo Creelman this morning at 11am.
President Michael D Higgins and Taoiseach Leo Varadkar are represented by their respective aides-de-camp.
Margo duetted with Big Tom on a song called 'A Love That's Lasted Through The Years.'
Speaking on RTÉ Morning Ireland, Margo said: "Somebody said today, it's like the day Elvis died, and Big Tom was our Elvis."
She said that she felt that Big Tom didn't realise how popular he was.
Tom's wife Rose passed away eleven weeks ago.
"It's been sad now for eleven weeks because Tom's wife Rose passed away and he was broken hearted but I know that he is happier now. Their love was a love made in heaven," she said.
She added that Big Tom will 'never, ever be forgotten.'
"There will never be another Big Tom McBride," she said adding that his legacy will always be the man who sang the sad songs but the true songs.
The Mass will be followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
Big Tom died on Tuesday, aged 81.
