A new two-day festival is set to begin this summer in Gaoth Dobhair and the Dublin-based award winning band 'Keywest' will be the headline act.
The festival which is titled 'SULT' is a two-day annual outdoor music festival which aims to encourage huge interest in the area by offering a natural haven for fun, excitement, music and entertainment for the festival enthusiast.
The initial SULT committee was set up in early 2017 and consisted of four members, Brian McCafferty who proposed the idea, Geraldine Boyle as secretary, Pearse Doherty as treasurer and Anne Blair as PR manager.
One of the committee members said: “After extensive research we embraced the idea of injecting a much needed buzz and excitement into the area through music and craic and the project was adopted.”
The non profit committee has grown in strength over the months and now boasts 15 members.
All of those on the committee live locally.
The main objective of the committee is to 'give back to the community' by pooling their collective skill sets to organise and deliver an annual music festival.
One of the winning attributes that the festival encompasses is that it will be held in Magheragallon - an expansive area which hugs the stunning coastline of the area.
Profits from the festival will be reinvested in local community projects. The festival will host a disco on Friday evening, July 6th.
Six bands will take to the stage from 4pm on Saturday.
SULT aims to offer all of the ingredients of a well-established festival in its premier year offering an attractive line-up, a spacious marquee, a good variety of catering units, security, shuttle buses, taxis and local accommodation.
Bursting with talent
The local area is bursting with local talent, singers and musicians from all genres who live in the immediate locality and the festival will provide a well-deserved platform for them to showcase their wonderful talent.
The band 'Keywest' will headline the festival this year.
The band clocked up triple platinum sales for their first album 'The Message.'
Keywest is a multi-award winning, band. They are a 4 piece band that has created an infusion of folk, rock and pop.
They began playing on the streets across Ireland "busking" to survive.
However, from their first performance in this environment it was evident that they were something special. The band began pulling crowds and blocking up streets everywhere they played. This had not been seen in Ireland since U2 started playing on the streets.
Other bands that will take to the stage are 'The Logues,' 'Ryan Sheridan,' 'Danny and James' and 'Fast as Folk.'
