Special remembrance ceremony being organised for Emmett Blain

The tragic passing of Mountcharles man Emmet Blain who lost his life in a freak accident on Friday night last in Dubai has evoked great sadness both here at home and throughout the Emirates.

A remembrance ceremony in being held at 8pm this evening (Wednesday) in Sharjah by his club, the Sharjah Gaels to where hundreds are expected to travel from as far away as Abu Dhabi and Oman.

Aine McGinley from Annagry who is PRO with the club told the Democrat, “Originally we had planned this for an earlier time but so many have been in touch with us from all over the Emirates indicating that they were coming, we just had to move it back to allow them time for travelling.

“This is not confined to just GAA members but to the Irish community who held Emmet in great respect. Friends of Emmett will  also share some words and memories this evening. It is a very sad time for us all.

“We will open a book of condolence and invite all Gaels and anyone else who wishes to attend. There will be tea and sandwiches provided and we would like to view this as an opportunity for everyone to gather and remember the many good times we all shared with Emmet.
