On Thursday evening, the Donegal Association in Dublin hosted their Christmas event and were delighted to have former Donegal champion Donal Reid present to sign copies of his book ‘Confessions of a Gaelic Footballer’.

The event kicked off in Cassidy’s Bar, Camden Street after 6.30pm with 1992 All-Ireland winning captain, Anthony Molloy, present as the special guest.

There was a great turnout on the night which consisted of Donegal people living in Dublin and fans from other parts of the country. All proceeds from the book and the raffle on the night went towards Pieta House who hope to build a centre in Donegal in 2017.

Anthony Molloy was the special guest on the night. He spoke of the great work carried out by the Donegal Association in Dublin over the years and encouraged people to get involved with the association. He also looked back with fond memories of the great times himself and Donal had on the back of the county bus singing songs. He wished Donal every success with his book.

A spokesperson for Pieta House on the night told those present that the people of Donegal have worked hard for the establishment of a centre in Donegal and it is their intention to have a facility set up by 2017. He also spoke of the importance of seeking help and emphasised that the services provided by Pieta House are 100 per cent confidential.

Donal Reid thanked those present on the night for showing their support for him and his efforts to raise funds for Pieta House. Donal spoke passionately about the importance of mental health and how he personally had Pieta House in the back of his mind as he was writing the book as the charity of his choice. During the book signing session Donal spent time talking to all his fans and signing the book ‘Confessions of a Footballer’ which many readers will have the pleasure of enjoying over the Christmas season. The evening concluded with a raffle for Pieta House. The Donegal Association would like to thank the sponsors of prizes on the night including Magee of Donegal, McGinley Buses, Bus Éireann, Abbey Hotel, Ostán Loch Altán, Super Value in Raheny and Mace in Raheny. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
