Donegal author pens second book aimed at smashing the stigma associated with mental illness and addiction

Colette Doherty's new book aims to help smash the stigma associated with mental health and addiction.
The book is dedicated to those who suffer depression/anxiety and other mental health issues.
The book will be launched by Councillor Micheál Choilm Mac Giolla Easbuig in Ionad Naomh Pádraig Dobhar on Friday, September 13 at 7pm.
The book, of heartlfelt poems, provides an insight into mental health and addictions.
“Having been putting this off for so long, I decided it was now time to go back into my past of PTSD, depression/anxiety and put together, in the only way I know how, by poetry, about my own fight with mental health and this unknown fear that haunted me for years, which I did due to the stigma attached to this illness of the mind,” she said.
Ms Doherty believes that trauma(s) in life can surface in later years as mental illness and people are afraid to be open and discuss them due to the stigma associated with such matters. Her book will be welcomed by many who will empathise with her wonderful poetry and relate to her words.

In 2017, Ms Doherty launched the book 'The Pathway to Hell' which also dealt with battling addictions.
