Register-to-vote campaign to be launched in Donegal

The Chair of the Referendum Commission will launch a campaign to encourage people to ensure they are registered to vote ahead of the upcoming referendum on the regulation of divorce.

Judge Tara Burns will begin the register-to-vote campaign at  Letterkenny Institute of Technology next week where she will address students.

Donegal had one of the lowest voter turnouts in the last referendum, and the Chair will talk about the importance of voting.

The event at Letterkenny Institute of Technology on Tuesday at 12 30 pm will mark the start of the Commission’s information campaign encouraging people to ensure they are on the electoral register.

A referendum on the regulation of divorce will take place on May 24, the same day as the local government and European Parliament elections.  Those not registered to vote have until May 7 to get on the electoral register in time.

Ms Justice Burns will talk about the importance of voting, and will answer students’ questions.
