Winner of the Cara 10 mile challenge John Travers, Donore Harriers

Sligo based runner John Travers, a member of the Donore Harriers club, has retained his Cara 10 mile title which he won last year.

Last year he finished in a time of 52 minutes, 22 seconds, but this year he improved on that, finishing in 51.44.

It's been a great seven days for Travers, last week he won the national 1,500 metres title.

Kyle Doherty, City of Derry Spartans, finished second in 52.47 while Owen Hughes, 53.47, was third.

Tara Malone, 1Zero1, was the first female home in 1.07.13, second was Aisling Murray, Carmen Runners in 1.08.29 and third was Cora Regan, Drumshanbo AC in 1.10.19.

The 10k race was won by Mark Guerin, Limerick AC 0.35.00, Shane Brady, Clones 0.35.13 and third Ronan Smith, Analee AC in 37.22. Denise Toner, Clones AC, 38.12; Aoife Kilgannon, Sligo AC, 38.27, Heather Foley, Sligo AC, 38.51 were the top three female finishers.

Despite snow in many parts of the country this morning, the Bundoran venue was cold but snow-free and the walks and races over ten miles and 10k attracted huge numbers.
