Dead animals dumped at scenic Donegal spot

Animal carcasses and building material have been dumped at a scenic location close to the border.

Locals in the Drumdoit area of Castlefinn have discovered fly-tipping at a beauty spot in a forest.

The Raws area is popular with walkers but recently locals have discovered fly-tipping.

Anthony Bogle, who lives in the area and is Chairman of the Finn Valley Text Alert, said a dead sheep was found dumped at the site at The Five Cross Roads just this week.

“Last month a local from that area contacted me to tell me she found remains of an animal carcass in the forest,” Mr Bogle said.

“And this morning to my shock I get another call about sheep that has been dumped on the side off the road.”

Mr Bogle has called on Donegal County Council to take action to detect those who are responsible.

“Currently in this area there are no signs which may act as a deterrent to the fly tippers. Hidden cameras would be an option in tackling this issue,” he said.

“This is a beautiful area surrounded by forests and bog areas which is full of wildlife. There are many locals like myself who travel to that area to use the forest paths and trails to walk and take in such an amazing beauty spot."
