A Donegal mother has made a heartfelt plea over a proposed delay to a major operation for her son which she fears could cost him his life.
Elizabeth Hanlon was told in March that her 26-year-old son Jason, who has a severe intellectual disability since birth, would need major surgery to ease the acute pain he is experiencing from scoliosis, a condition which causes curvature of the spine.
But the Dunlgoe woman says she has been told the operation, which was expected to take place in late summer or early autumn, has been put back indefinitely and she fears her son’s condition is worsening so severely that his life will be at risk if he has to wait potentially until next spring.
She fears that if he does not get the operation soon it may be too late for him.
“I am his voice because he doesn't talk and I will fight for this and take this wherever I have to go.”
