Wife of tragic Garda taking legal action

A national newspaper today reports that the wife of a Garda Sergeant who took his own life at Ballyshannon Garda Station is to sue the Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission.

Garda Sgt Michael Galvin, aged 48, shot himself in May 2015 while awaiting the findings of an investigation into the handling of a road death in Ballyshannon on New Year’s Day in 2015.

He and another Garda had been cleared of all wrongdoing following the tragic death of Sheena Stewart, 33, but had not been informed by GSOC.

The Irish Star reports that Michael Galvin's wife Colette Galvin has lodged High Court papers against GSOC.
